| Quseir is one of the few cities on the Red Sea coast that has a historic style of its own, as well as retaining its old charm.
Carpe Vitam has been working at improving the infrastructure in the historic part of Quseir by ensuring that all the houses have been connected to a new sewer system. That the streets leading to the harbour have been paved. The promenade along the bay has been restored. During 2005 a two meter bronze statue of a peace dove will be mounted on an eight meter column, raised on the former base of the phosphate company’s shipping crane.
In front of the dove, on the cape between the bay and the sea, there are plans for building a small amphitheatre, which will be facing the sea.
The lovely promenade is lined by a long row of older buildings that turns the walk along the beach into a very special experience. The well-known architect Rami El Darhan, has been entrusted with the project. He understands the importance of retaining the original ambience.
Carpe Vitam has plans to build a tourist centre along the promenade, as well as a crafts and diving centre. This investment will be completed in 2006.
The project aims to explore how the local population can benefit from and make the most of the area around the promenade. The strategy will be to to produce a city plan which takes into account the historic value of the site, while incorporating the changes in social and economic demands that tourism inevitably brings.
